Public Officials for Victim
Justice
We are elected officials from local and state
jurisdictions all across America. We include Democrats, Republicans,
Independents, and others. We strive through our public service to extend
liberty and justice to all people.
We are united in our support for the
Kyl-Feinstein Crime Victims Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution.
We understand the great diversity of views
which go to make up our constituencies. To be sure there is much strength that
comes from such diversity. But we also now that there are certain common core
values which must unite us as a people. Core values which spring deep from our
culture and history. Among these is the sense that every person should be
treated with fairness and dignity.
For many crime victims this core value is an
unfulfilled promise. Our justice system too often wrongly turns away from the
crime victim, even as it rightly focuses on the interests of the defendant and
the State. Such imbalance must come to an end. We believe that this will only
happen when victims’ rights are written into our supreme law.
We can assure you that the people we serve
strongly support establishing constitutional rights for crime victims and your
efforts to pass the Kyl-Feinstein Crime Victims Rights Amendment.
